Eight of the world’s major religions are set to launch ambitious plans to help lift millions of people out of poverty in line with the United Nations’ own Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The plans--which the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has described as among “the most concrete” commitments to the SDGs to date--will be unveiled at a UN-led interfaith meeting which opens in Bristol, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.

UNFPA’s Azza Karam told Daniel Johnson that the development is significant because faith is critical to 80 per cent of the world’s population.
