Nearly 5,000 Afghan civilians have been killed or injured as a result of ongoing violence in the country in the first six months of the year, according to a UN report released Wednesday.

Mortar attacks, improvised explosive devices and other lethal weapons are behind the figures, which were compiled by the UNAMA, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.

UNAMA head Nicholas Haysom called the report’s findings “truly horrendous”, before telling Setyo Budi that it’s time to focus on the terrible price paid by families, communities and survivors.
