The decision by warring parties to sign a peace deal in Mali in which there’s to be accountability for serious rights violations is the best chance of restoring the country’s fortunes, the UN said Tuesday.

Ravina Shamdasani from the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said it was satisfied that a “blanket amnesty” had not been offered as part of the deal.

But she told Daniel Johnson that there’s still a risk of violence flaring up in northern Mali as not all parties to the conflict have agreed to end fighting.
