Unrest in Central Africa is stretching the already scarce resources of Chad, even further than normal according to the International Monetary Fund or IMF.

Chad has been struggling with drought, poverty and insecurity, a situation which has worsened following the arrival of around 100,000 refugees from neighbouring countries.

Despite the challenges, the IMF says this landlocked Sub-Saharan country has made remarkable economic reforms.

Its progress means that it now has access to US$1.1 billion in debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative, known as HIPIC.
