A “staggering array” of gross human rights abuses have been committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in northern Iraq, according to a report released on Thursday.

The report jointly compiled by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights covers the period from 6 July to 10 September.

It also describes violations of international humanitarian and human rights law reportedly committed by the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and affiliated armed groups during the same period.

Derrick Mbatha discussed the report with Ravina Shamdasani, Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.
