It’s a rare occurrence to see a dog on a lead in South Sudan… even rarer, a dog with a job.

But that is set to change, at least at the United Nations mission in the country, UNMISS.

Eight dogs have been trained to sniff out any explosives, weapons or contraband being brought into the UNMISS camps.

The dogs with jobs provide protection for the staff working and the more than 27,000 displaced people seeking shelter at the UNMISS base at Tomping in Juba.

David Lukan went along to see the dogs perform in one of their final training sessions before their first day in the office.
