Asian countries can demonstrate to nations in the global south how best to develop their fish and aquaculture industries according to the United Nations.

The industries are growing rapidly in Asia and now more of this knowledge is being transferred to places like Africa.

Oceans and fisheries are among the topics under discussion in meetings of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals taking place in New York.

Arni Mathiesen, head of the fisheries department at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, is one of the participants in these meetings.

Mr. Mathiesen told UN Radio’s Derrick Mbatha that on average, the consumption of fish is very high in Asia.
