The establishment of the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs is moving a step closer this week as countries around the world gather at the UN in New York to discuss the future of global development.

The SDGs are replacing the MDGs or Millennium Development Goals, the deadline for which is the end of next year.

Discussion around what the SDGs will include is centred, for the time being, on the Open Working Groups of the General Assembly.

Daniel Dickinson asked Jorge Laguna-Celis a senior advisor on sustainable development in the Office of the President of the General Assembly about progress towards deciding the new goals.
