Thousands of migrant workers from developing countries have been “tricked and trapped” into forced labour in the Middle East, according to a study by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

It finds that an estimated 600,000 low-skilled workers are enduring hardships including isolation and sexual exploitation, in a region that has one of the highest concentrations of migrant workers in the world.

The ILO is presenting its findings this week at a conference in Amman, Jordan, aimed at furthering discussions on putting anti-trafficking commitments into practice.
