October is a special month for the United Nations as it marks the anniversary of the founding of the organization which is 67 years old this year.

The UN would not have existed had it not been for supporters like former United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

A New York City park honouring the President, who died in 1945, was officially opened to the public on 24 October, or United Nations Day.

The Four Freedoms Park, as it is called, celebrates the legacy of the man known as “FDR” and the fundamental human rights which he believed in that were later inscribed in the Charter of the United Nations.
