Iran needs to be part of the solution when it comes to ending the conflict in Syria, according to Joint United Nations-Arab League Special Envoy Kofi Annan.

He made the remarks after meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Tehran. The Iranian government has strong ties with Syria and Mr. Annan said Mr. Salehi was supportive of the peace plan he’s proposed for the country.

The Special Envoy also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad Tuesday, again to push for help in ending the Syrian crisis.

Donn Bobb talked with Mr. Annan’s spokesman, Ahmad Fawzi, just before they left Iraq.
