Qatar: Robots win races

Qatar: Robots win races

Camel racing is a centuries old sport in the Gulf region. It's an exciting event that generates cash prizes which drive the camel owners to do anything they can to win, even if that means using children as jockeys.

The children, mostly from Bangladesh, Sudan, India and Pakistan, are smuggled into the Gulf states. Qatar and other Gulf countries now use robots as jockeys, banning children entirely from riding camels following criticism that they were often abused by camel owners who were determined to shape them into skilled riders.

Mary Ferreira from UNTV has the story.
