World Refugee Day is being observed on 20 June.

There are more than 43.7 million refugees and internally displaced people around the world according to the UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR.

This year’s theme for the Day is “Refugees have no choice. You do.” The campaign, which UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Khaled Hosseini is taking part in, highlights their plight as well as ways for people to help.

Mr. Hosseini knows a lot about refugees, he was once one and has written extensively about it in his books including the bestseller “The Kite Runner”. The latest book he is working on will also touch upon similar subjects.

Julie Walker spoke with him about his work on behalf of refugees and their plight.
