The continued violence in Syria was the focus of a General Assembly meeting on Thursday.

It came a day after the killing of at least 78 villagers near the city of Hama.

Among those addressing the chamber was Kofi Annan, joint UN-Arab League Special Envoy for Syria, who said his peace plan is not being implemented.
