Millions of children in some of the world’s richest countries are living in poverty, according to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

In its latest report, UNICEF says that 30 million children in 35 countries, including those in the European Union, do not have basic items or three meals a day, among other measures of what it calls “material deprivation.”

Patrick Maigua spoke to Gordon Alexander, Director of UNICEF's Office of Research, about what poverty is like in these countries and how government measures to fight the economic crisis could affect children.
