Foreign Direct investment to low income countries is booming globally. On average, it’s grown about 20% each year for the past decade. Some of the main investors are the so-called BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India and China. Chinese foreign direct investment alone has grown three times the global level.

Amy Held of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) spoke to Montfort Mlachila of the IMF’s African Department and he explains what’s pushing the BRICS to invest so heavily in low income countries.
