The UN Security Council has called on Sudan and South Sudan to end hostilities.

In a unanimous resolution on Wednesday, Council members called on the two countries to resume negotiations and within three months resolve the issues causing the conflict.

They include the status of nationals of one country resident in the other, border demarcation and the final status of the disputed Abyei region.

The Council warned that if they fail to do so it would consider the imposition of measures, including economic sanctions, on the two countries.
