Security Council deplores deadly car bombing in Russia

The Security Council on Friday strongly condemned the suicide car bombing that occurred in the Russian city of Vladikavkaz on 9 September, which reportedly killed at least a dozen people and wounded more than 140.

In a statement read out to the press by Ambassador Ertuğrul Apakan of Turkey, which holds the Council presidency this month, the 15-member body voiced their deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of the “heinous act of terrorism,” to their families, and to the Russian Government and people.

“The Members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,” the statement added.

According to media reports, the attack took place at the central market in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia.
