A car bomb exploded at 5:30 a.m. in one of the city’s financial districts, injuring nine people and damaging the offices of Caracol Radio and EFE News.
“I feel relieved that this attack did not lead to fatal casualties,” said Christian Salazar, Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Colombia, expressing his solidarity with the blast’s victims and the people who live and work in Bogotá.
His office voiced hope that Colombian authorities will take the necessary security measures to ensure people’s safety, as well as to investigate the incident and prosecute the perpetrators.
In addition, if the attack is confirmed to have been intended to intimidate the media, the Office underscored the importance of the freedom of the press and the right to information.
