Secretary-General to head to US capital this week

During his 4-5 June visit, he will meet with United States Vice-President Joseph Biden and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.
While in the US capital, the Secretary-General will also participate in a dialogue on international affairs at the Brookings Institution, a research organization, on Thursday evening.
His last visit to Washington came last month, when he addressed the class of 2009 at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, calling for a special brand of global leadership and a new multilateralism to deal with the complex challenges facing the world today.
“Threats spill across borders. Just as the world’s people have become more interdependent, so have the issues. No nation can deal with them alone,” he said in his commencement address.
During that visit, he also met with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, as well as with some key members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committee.
