The Convention on the Limitation Period in the International Sale of Goods, which was originally adopted in 1974, will enter into force for Belgium on 1 March 2009 after it deposited its instrument of accession.
The pact sets out uniform rules governing the length of time within which legal proceedings arising from an international sales contract must be started. In 1980 it was amended to be in harmony with the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
The Vienna-based UNCITRAL works to remove obstacles to international trade by progressively modernizing and harmonizing trade law.
