Haiti: UN peacekeeper, Red Cross workers wounded in shooting
A United Nation peacekeeper, two Haitian Red Cross volunteers and another Haitian civilian were wounded – one severely – when unknown gunmen opened fire on the group in front of a hospital in Cité Soleil, a troubled suburb of the capital Port-au-Prince.

According to the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), its peacekeepers had benn conducting a reconnaissance mission at Chapi hospital. The four injured yesterday were evacuated to the Argentinean hospital in Port-au-Prince where they are currently being treated.
“Our thoughts are with those who were injured during this unwarranted act,” said General Augusto Heleno Ribeiro Pereira, MINUSTAH Military Force Commander. “The targeting of hospitals and Red Cross workers is a savage act and clearly demonstrates the mentality of those who wish to threaten the stability and security of Haitian people,” he added.
In a press release, a MINUSTAH spokesperson said that the mission maintained a zero tolerance policy against armed groups and remained committed to ensuring a stable and secure environment for the people of Haiti.
