Liberian Government, donors to meet in Denmark for progress review – UN

Good governance, the re-integration of displaced people and preparations for the presidential elections in October will top the agenda next week when Liberia's Transitional Government meets representatives of the countries and organizations that have been assisting it resolve post-conflict issues, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said today.

The second Technical Meeting, organized by the World Bank and UN agencies for next Monday and Tuesday in Copenhagen, Denmark, will discuss the Results Focused Transitional Framework for which donors pledged nearly $500 million in reconstruction and humanitarian aid in February of last year.

Using the Framework, the meeting will review Liberia's progress since ending a devastating 14-year civil war with a Comprehensive Peace Agreement in August 2003.

With much of the country's infrastructure razed, UNDP said it has been helping the National Transitional Government of Liberia to draw up a comprehensive national reconstruction plan. It has also helped to organize a voter education programme.
