United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today left for India for an official visit after wrapping up his programme in Indonesia, where he attended a summit of Asian and African leaders and also took part in the fiftieth anniversary commemoration of the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung.

Before leaving the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, the Secretary-General on Saturday held 12 bilateral meetings on the summit's sidelines, including talks with Presidents Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, Than Shwe of Myanmar, Omer Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan and Hu Jintao of China.

During a press conference between meetings, Mr. Annan also confirmed that he would be visiting Moscow next month for the sixtieth anniversary of the end of World War II.
