UN human rights envoy visits DR of Congo

A United Nations human rights expert is on her fourth visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to tackle such issues as national reconciliation, human rights violations, impunity, illegal exploitation of natural resources and the administration of justice.

At the invitation of the Government, the UN Commission on Human Rights Special Rapporteur on human rights in the DRC, Iulia Motoc, is visiting the capital, Kinshasa, Kindu in the eastern province of Maniema, Likasi in Katanga and Lubumbashi during her 29 November to 11 December visit.

She was scheduled to meet President Joseph Kabila and several senior government officials, as well as the chief of the UN Organization Mission in the DRC (MONUC), William Lacy Swing, other UN officials and representatives of civil society.
