Annan condemns bomb explosion in Indonesia

Kofi Annan
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan was "horrified" at today's bomb explosion at a hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, condemning the apparent terrorist act and expressing his sympathy for the victims.

The Secretary-General "condemns in the strongest possible terms this apparent act of terrorism," said a statement issued by a spokesman for Mr. Annan in New York. The explosion at the Marriott Hotel in the Indonesian capital killed at least 10 people and injured many more.

Mr. Annan lamented the attacks and extended his "heartfelt condolences" to the Indonesian Government and the families of the victims of this "despicable act," the statement added.
