Security Council mission to travel to DR of Congo, region, in late April

A United Nations Security Council delegation will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and other countries in the region in late April, a UN spokesman said today.

The Council delegation, which will be led by Ambassador Jean-David Levitte of France, will depart on 27 April on a weeklong trip, during which it is also expected to visit Angola, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda.

The mission’s essential objective is to give new impetus to the peace process and to the implementation by all parties of the Lusaka accords, the spokesman said. The delegation is scheduled to return to New York on 7 May.
