United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of a senior official from the Slovak Republic to head the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).
Brigita Schmögnerová will serve as the new Executive Secretary of the Geneva-based ECE, at the Under-Secretary-General level.
Ms. Schmögnerová previously served as economic advisor to the Slovak President in 1993, Deputy Prime Minister in 1994 and Finance Minister from 1998-2002. From 1995 to 1998, she served as a Member of Parliament.
