The need for sustaining Security Council attention on the Sahel is greater than ever, according to the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the region.
Hiroute Guebre Sellassie gave an update to the 15-nation body on Thursday, highlighting peace and security issues in West Africa’s vast area bordering the Sahara Desert.
The Sahel region is facing multiple and complex challenges related to governance, development and human rights.
