UNICEF tent classrooms a safe space for children affected by cyclone in Tonga

Intro:

Thousands of children in Tonga are back at school one month after Cyclone Gita slammed into the Pacific Island nation, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported.

However, instead of studying in brick and mortar classrooms, some children are reading, writing and working out sums in large tents provided by the agency.

Cate Heinrich, UNICEF Head of Communications in the Pacific, who is based in Fiji, recently returned from a visit to Tonga to see how communities are faring.

She spoke on the line to Julia Dean at the UN Information Centre in Canberra, Australia.
