Young people can really make a change today more than any time in history, the new UN Youth Envoy said ahead of International Youth Day observed every 12 August.

Jayathma Wickramanayake arrived in Iraq on Friday to mark the day with young peace-builders in the war-torn country.

The official theme for this year is “Youth Building Peace”.

Around 1.8 billion people in the world are between the ages of 15 and 24, making the current generation of youth the largest in history, according to UN estimates.

The new Youth Envoy told Liz Scaffidi how she will do everything possible in her capacity, to ensure that young people have a home at the UN.
