The sweltering conditions affecting western Europe are set to last for at least another two weeks, but there may be some respite by the weekend, a senior UN weather expert said on Tuesday.

With temperatures soaring well above 30 C in Geneva, Omar Baddour, senior scientist at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) explained that the warm front was likely to move east in coming days.

He told Daniel Johnson that although no records have been broken, what is it is significant that this year’s hot spell has come earlier than expected.
