While the past decade has seen many improvements in national laws that infringe on the human rights of people with disabilities, there is still a long way to go.

That’s the assessment of Theresia Degener, chairperson of the UN committee which monitors implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Activists are at the UN this week to review progress achieved since the treaty was adopted in 2006.

Ms Degener spoke to Mark Petimezas about some of those developments as well as the challenges which persist.
