Scars of rape last “longer than the war”: UN Special Representative

Addressing sexual violence in conflict is the “great moral challenge of our time,” the outgoing Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sexual Violence in Conflict has said.

Zainab Hawa Bangura was speaking at a panel discussion at UN Headquarters about preventing sexual violence in conflict, when she made the statement.

Following the discussion, Ms Bangura told Lucy Dean about the most persistent challenges she has faced in her time spent addressing and trying to prevent sexual violence in war.
