Discrimination, marginalization, unemployment and greater susceptibility to skin cancer are some of the obstacles encountered by people with albinism, according to an activist from the West African country of Liberia.

Patricia M. C. Logan is the founder and Executive Director of the Liberia Albino Society which works to empower people who have the rare genetic condition, which results in lack of pigment in the hair, skin and, sometimes, eyes.

Ms Logan attended the first-ever UN forum on Action on Albinism in Africa, which concluded in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday.

She spoke to Stella Vuzo about the importance of the three-day meeting.
