More than 20 journalists from some of the world’s most vulnerable nations are covering a United Nations conference on the world’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs) which wraps up in Antalya, Turkey, on Sunday.

The gathering not only provides them with the chance to report on how their homelands are progressing socially and economically, but also to learn about the wider work of the UN.

That message comes from Gyan Chandra Acharya, the UN official charged with monitoring how the 48 LDCs are implementing the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPOA).

Adopted five years ago, it aims to support these countries to enable half of them to graduate from the LDC category during the decade ending in 2020.

Stéphanie Coutrix caught up with Mr Acharya following a press briefing on Saturday to ask him about the importance of having journalists from LDCs at the conference.
