An international conference focusing on multiple global humanitarian crises is about supporting people who are affected by natural and man-made disasters, according to the UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson.
More than 125 Heads of State and Government are expected to attend the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit which begins in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday.
The United Nations is describing the event as a wake-up call for action in the “service of common humanity”, one which can provide a “launch pad for new initiatives.”
Elena Vapnitchnaia is in Turkey. She asked Mr Eliasson how optimistic he was that people could be helped quickly.
