The production of rice has fallen by over eight per cent in some parts of Guinea in West Africa as a result of the Ebola crisis, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The deadly virus which has left more than 9,000 people dead mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has disrupted the trade in food across the affected region.

Now the World Bank is teaming up with FAO on a US$ 5 million programme to prevent the spread of Ebola, and to support the production of food as well as income generation.

Sandra Ferrari asked FAO's Vincent Martin who is based in West Africa, how rural communities in Guinea are bearing up in the face of Ebola.
