Thirty UN peacekeepers based in northern Mali are returning to their camp after having left to raise concerns about their working conditions, according to the UN Mission in the country, MINUSMA.

The soldiers from Chad, who are based in Aguelhok near the city of Kidal, have reported payment issues and lack of living supplies while they serve to protect the region from terrorism.

The UN has been supporting Mali since a coup d’état in early 2012 which continues to breed instability and violence.

Stephanie Coutrix first asked Radhia Achouri, spokesperson for MINUSMA, what grievances the peacekeepers had.
