More than 40 people lose their lives to drowning every hour, every day the World Health Organization has found.

In a new report released on Monday, WHO puts the global number of drowning deaths a year to 372,000.

Over half of them are among young people below the age of 25, with the highest rates among children under five.

Jocelyne Sambira spoke to WHO’s Dr. David Meddings on the line from Geneva to learn more about this problem.
