The reduction of salt in diets can help to save lives according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Health professionals say that over-consumption increases blood pressure and can lead to heart problems.

On average, people consume around 10 grams per day, around double WHO’s recommended level.

On World heart Day which is observed on 29 September, Patrick Maigua has been talking to Dr Temo Waqanivalu, a non-communicable disease expert at WHO.

He began by asking Dr Waqanivalu for a definition of salt.
