A rapid response force is being trained in the Central African Republic (CAR) to curb conflict-related sexual violence in the country.

That’s what the UN Special Envoy on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Zainab Hawa Bangura said on Friday on the margins of a high-level meeting on CAR.

Over a hundred gendarmes are currently being taught how to document these crimes and collect evidence, she added.

Gendarmes are military officers charged with police duties.

On 15 September, the United Nations took over an African-union led peacekeeping mission and established MINUSCA.

The Mission has yet to set up a UN Police force.

Speaking to Jocelyne Sambira, Ms Bangura began by sharing the Secretary-General’s key message to delegates at the meeting.
