The deaths of up to 500 migrants as they tried to cross the Mediterranean in a smugglers’ boat has been described as “mass murder” by the UN human rights chief.
Survivors of the incident say that the smugglers deliberately sank the boat after the migrants refused to change to another vessel.
The boat had originated in Egypt.
