A social media campaign in support of young girls’ education is making a difference worldwide.

#GirlWithABook was started by two young American girls, inspired by Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl shot by the Taliban in 2012 for wanting to go to school.

Lena Shareef and Olivia Curl were chatting online discussing the incident and decided to turn this misfortune into an opportunity.

They created a Facebook page and a Twitter account and started emailing friends and relatives to post pictures of themselves with a book to show solidarity with Malala and girls’ education.

Lena and Olivia finally met Malala at the United Nations in New York and spoke to Leda Letra about their social media journey that turned into a book.

Lena first talked about their recent meeting with Malala.
