The investigation and recovery effort on the site where the Malaysia Airlines passenger flight was shot down has been hampered because of continued shelling in Eastern Ukraine area.

That’s according to the Spokesperson for the OSCE Special monitoring mission to Ukraine who told UN Radio that the shelling creates a climate of fear which makes it difficult to carry out investigative work.

The OSCE is the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The UN has called for a full investigation into the crash of flight MH17, which went down in Donetsk Oblast on 17 July, resulting in the loss of 298 lives.

They have also urged armed groups to allow unfettered access to the crash site and ensure that its integrity is maintained.

Michael Bociurkiw told Elena Vapnitchnaia that for now, the focus is on recovering the victims’ remains and personal belongings.
