The World Bank Group is mobilizing millions of dollars to assist families and communities affected by the Ebola virus outbreak and to build up public health systems in West Africa.

The agency has pledged to give $200 million dollars in emergency aid following an appeal from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the three African countries hardest hit by Ebola.

Over 900 people have died in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since March 2014.

The new financial pledge would help pay for urgently needed medical supplies, salaries for staff and other vital materials to stabilize the health system.
