The reconciliation process in Côte d'Ivoire is progressing ahead of presidential elections which are due to be held next year, according to the top UN envoy in the country.

The West African nation is recovering from the political crisis and violence that followed the refusal of former President Laurent Gbagbo to concede defeat in the 2010 presidential election.

The mandate for the UN peacekeeping mission is due to be extended on Wednesday.

Cristina Silveiro asked the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Côte d'Ivoire, Aichatou Mindaoudou, about the progress made on reconciling former enemies.
