“All eyes are on Afghanistan” as it prepares for elections on 5 April, the Under Secretary-General for UN’s political affairs said at the end of his two-day visit to the country.

The elections will mark the first ever transfer of power from one elected president to another in the country’s history.

Jeffrey Feltman, who oversees and coordinates UN electoral assistance globally, advised that to build credibility for the elections, the inclusion of voters and the integrity of the system were important.

Speaking to UN Radio’s Tilak Pokharel, Mr. Feltman said the UN will provide technical support in the organization of elections but insisted it will remain an “Afghan-led process”.
