Poor harvest, bad weather and a locust invasion in Madagascar have caused serious food shortages.

The extent of the crisis has been revealed in joint report by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Wednesday.

The production of rice and maize, staple foods in the Indian Ocean island, has seriously declined. Millions of people are now food insecure and a further 9.5 million are at risk, the UN agencies warn.
