Bogaletch Gebre, an Ethiopian women’s rights campaigner, was awarded the 2012-2013 King Baudouin African Development Prize in Belgium. The Prize was established in 1978 to promote social progress throughout the developing world and is now concentrating its efforts on Africa.

Bogaletch, together with her sister, founded the Kembatti Mentti Gezzimma (KMG) in 1997, a non-profit organization that works on empowering women.

She sat down with Beng Poblete-Enriquez where they discussed her organization’s work and her many accomplishments, including reducing female genital mutilation by 97%.
